This Entry-Level Drone Is One Of Our Favorites

by TeachThought Staff

If you’re looking for a fantastic entry-level drone–for you or your classroom–the Holystone HS210 is a rugged, affordable, simple drone that functions well as a drone you can use to learn to fly faster, more delicate, and more expensive drones.

At $25, it’s difficult to not give it a shot if you’ve ever wanted to learn to fly drones but haven’t done so. If it’s too small for your needs (a drone this small is very hard to fly with even a whisper of wind–meaning they’re mainly useful as indoor drones–below are two alternatives.

The Snaptain S5C is a decent starting point for (as of this posting) around $69 and has a camera–something that the DEERC D20 Drone also has in 720P form and camera remote control for closer to $40.

We don’t talk much about drones (or ‘quadcopters’ if you prefer), but they’re gradually becoming less technological outliers and a bit more mainstream. They have application in the classroom, primarily in STEM lessons, but certainly in other applications as well with a little imagination (examining community infrastructure, exploring aerodynamics, monitoring local traffic patterns in project-based learning, etc.)

If you’re going to grab one, know that the run-time of drones this size is not long–usually between 5 and 15 minutes. This makes an extra set of batteries a good idea–something like the Fytoo drone batteries.

Commerce Content is independent of Editorial and Advertising.

In an effort to gradually shift away from ads and other forms of ‘interrupting marketing, we’re turning to affiliate efforts like these above to replace advertising dollars that support TeachThought and everything we do, as we are small, teacher-run, and self-funded. What this means for you is that if you click on something and purchase it, we may get an (indefensibly small) percentage of the sale. If you want to make sure that doesn’t happen and all revenue goes to the retailer/vendor, simply take our recommendation (which we take very seriously) and search for it on your own without using the link. Regardless of any affiliate membership, we never recommend any product or service we don’t find worth recommending. (A, that’d be lame, B, it’d give us bad karma, and C, you’d eventually stop trusting our recommendations so it’d be self-defeating).
